The Antigonish Highland Society reports from their 2nd annual Great Canadian Kilted Skate, which they hosted on Heritage Day, February 19th, at the Antigonish Arena.
“Members from the Antigonish Highland Dancing Association started the day with a few dances.
“They were followed by the Clan Thompson Pipe Band, who piped several tunes on the ice while enthusiastic skaters donned their tartan best!.
“The AHS was fortunate enough to have the U15-A Quad County Whitecaps Black and the Metro East Inferno Fire female hockey teams join us for a skate.
“There were lots of participants from young to old in attendance.
“The event was organized by the AHS events committee chairperson Duncan MacDonald, Dan Cochrane, Johnann LeBlanc, Carol Anne and Peter MacKenzie, Gerardine MacLean, Leon MacLellan, and Kerry Ann McCarron.
“The AHS kicked off the weekend with a ceilidh on Saturday, February 17th at Oak Manor by Burnside Brewing Company, featuring the Ceilidhmen along with guests Natalie DeCoste, Joan Dewar, and Wayne Fraser. This was a rousing way to start the festivities, and to introduce many attendees to the Great Canadian Kilted Skate.
“The AHS is very pleased with the turnout at both events, and look forward to continue this new and exciting tradition for years to come.
SLÁINTE!”
Congratulations to Gerardine MacLean and her team at the Antigonish Highland Society.
